Born in England to a Peruvian mother and a Polish father, moved to Boswana at the age of 8, Alexi started shooting at the age of 11 after his step dad offered him a camera. While studying at UK Brighton University, Lubomirski as been introduced to Mario Testino whom he assisted and traveled the world with for 4 years.

Hardly finding time to produce his very own test shoots, he had the luck to directly placed one of them into The Face – Since then Katie Grand introduced him the Harper’s and he has been shooting fashion stories, covers and celebrities.

He'd been galvanized by a research trip to the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum, where—just up his romantic street—he lost himself in a recent bequest of Charles James gowns being prepared for this spring's exhibitionAmerican Woman. "I was reading that, actually, it was Charles James who influenced Monsieur Dior to come up with the New Look," he said. "And then I was looking at a photo of Charles James doing a fitting—and on the wall behind him was a picture of women riding sidesaddle. And that was it!"

Culture minister Francois Mitterand bestowed upon Jacobs and Rykiel this afternoon at the French culture ministry in Paris. CONGRATULATIONS!

WHITE NIGHTS

Always a mysterious presence on the international fashion scene, Belgian designer Martin Margiela delivered his latest surprise in December when he left his eponymous studio, Maison Martin Margiela. Though Margiela may have made his name as a designer of trend-making fashion collections, for his final project with the Maison he explored another creative avenue of his: interior design, creating a suite for luxury spa Les Sources de Caudalie in Bordeaux. The "Ile aux Oiseaux" suite - filled with calfskin rugs, cracked mirrors and antique furniture - sits apart from the hotel in an idyllic stilt-mounted cabin. Amidst the typically Margiela white-on-white decor, a shocking flash of scarlet comes in the form of a giant pair of lips - a replica of Salvador Dali’s classic Mae West Sofa from 1936.
